Getting Bored At The Playground? We Know Why…
Challenging Playgrounds
It seems more and more challenging playgrounds have been replaced by ultra-safe ones. Children need challenges and mental stimulation in their daily life, but with most playgrounds today it is easy why kids get bored at the playground.
According to Angela Hanscom, a pediatric occupational therapist, “children need rapid, changing and accelerating movement on a daily basis”¹. It is shown that these types of movement provide children the right therapeutic stimulation that is needed for the child to develop physically and mentally.
In today’s society we have been so preoccupied with safety only compromises children’s need for expression and play. Out partner Landscape Structure produces playground equipment that is both safe and extremely challenging and fun for children. Just take a look at the new Global Motion, which is a brand-new rotating climber. With this equipment on the playground, children are exposed to therapeutic right movement. The Global Motion is easy to turn and control thanks to a patent-pending progressive resistance mechanism which keeps things rotating at exciting, yet controllable speed. Playground activities with motion provide an enjoyable way for kids to develop better depth perception, balance and cause-and-effect skills. ²
RecWest is proud to provide equipment that helps children establish solid balance systems and strengthen their attention span. Playgrounds have existed for many years and we believe it’s important to instill play value and let children explore their environment and encounter themselves at the same time gaining a reward.
Let kids be kids, while remaining a balance of safe and risk. Let them use their energy and be creative and let us bring the challenging, exciting playgrounds back!
