Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Zimmerman Park Playground
Last week RecWest was honored to be a part of the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the City of Norwalk’s brand new baseball-themed playground at Zimmerman Park.
Playground Design
The playground seamlessly incorporates classic baseball elements into its design. A large scoreboard sits atop a dynamic climbing structure. Kids use baseball mits as hand holds to access a steep curving slide, and the large baseball cutouts create a fun balancing transition between the two themed structures.

Norwalk’s Vice-Mayor, Cherri Kelley, and Parks and Recreation Director, Bill Kearns both lauded the playground’s design and potential impact on the community. Mr. Kearns praised RecWest for their work on Zimmerman Park’s playground, as well as designing and installing both Ramona and Glazier Park’s playground.
“The RecWest team, headed by Mike Bennett and Nate Stutz, designed three very creative playgrounds that the Norwalk community can be proud of for years to come. Their professionalism and outstanding customer service is deeply appreciated.” – Bill Kearns, Director of Recreation and Park Services
Norwalk City Council Members, Leonard Shryock and Luigi Vernola, also attended the event, along with City Manager, Michael Egan and around 100 other members of the local community. We were thrilled to see how much this playground means to the community. It’s this type of excitement from local communities that makes us grateful to have some of the best jobs in the world.
RecWest Making Memories
A little guy, just three years old, came to us and said; “Thank you for the playground!” His dad told us that his son had been anxiously waiting for the Zimmerman Park playground to open, and was so excited for the ribbon cutting. We hope this family and the many others from the Norwalk community will make lasting memories at this playground for years to come!
